My custom hearing aid

What?!!?

Can you repeat that please? This question gets a better response by the way.

Hearing is something we all tend to take for granted. And the longer you live, the more likely you will develop hearing loss. It’s a fact of nature.

Many people don’t seek treatment for several reasons. They don’t realize they have hearing loss, they don’t want to wear hearing aids, or they don’t have the money to buy a hearing device.

If left untreated, hearing loss is linked to health issues such as depression, dementia, and chronic stress. You are also…

I think of my sons when they were very young looking at this picture. They loved to play on the swing-set we had in the backyard; such great memories. Every day was a new adventure for them. It still is, right?

As I’m writing this, today is also September 11. It’s a day we each have specific memories of what we were doing. All of our lives changed since.

I was away from home, from the family, on a business trip in Chicago for 11 days. (My role was a product manager, was a key speaker and presenter at a…

Resilience and adapting

What do you do when you have stay-at-home orders during a pandemic? Adapt where you can.

I tried not to worry too much at the beginning of the unexpected Covid-19 craziness and focused on the book print projects I was involved with for clients. There was a lot of uncertainty with the book plants and supply chain. Thankfully, what we were doing was deemed “essential” because of being part of the communications industry. This happened because, as a group, we worked with our local state legislatures.

My background has been in the graphic arts industry for 25+ years and have helped countless publishers, non-profits, authors, and corporations (big and small) with their publications and media solutions.

My focus now is with solutions consulting and health advocacy, and incorporating some effort for my content.

This blog has been up since 2010 from the encouragement of my son’s to even start one. Since my last cancer diagnosis in 2014, I was inspired to write and publish my own books after reading Seth Godin’s book What to do when it’s Your Turn.

For the first book, Real Things: 6…

What do you really have control over?

That’s a question you should ask yourself every day. It’s a simple reminder that how you choose to act (or react) and present yourself is in your control.

There are a lot of problems around us that we don’t have control over.

Everything is someone else’s fault for many people. Every problem can be explained away with reasons why they can’t affect the situation or the outcome. Why do they do this? That type of behavior can be annoying and I tend to stay away from those who are like that.

When you blame others, you give up the power…

We knew this day would come eventually.

Our youngest son decided not to participate in travel ice hockey his Senior year. He wanted to focus on school, keep his grades up, and enjoy that last year of high school without traveling cross country.

We are okay with his decision because he’s the one that was playing. But I missed it more than expected.

It felt like I was abruptly fired. Yet relieved in a strange way — there seems to be so much more time in our schedule. And more money in the bank.

Once the new season started, it…

Be okay with your feelings.

I’m stating the obvious, but reminding you that our emotional state (mental health) is important and is connected to our physical health. We know intuitively that when we’re feeling stressed, we are more inclined to get sick — you can get a migraine headache, acne breakout, anxiety, depression, etc.

Life is stressful.

“I’m under a lot of pressure right now.”

“Well, what do I do?”

Acknowledge those feelings when you are dealing with high stress. Try not to suppress it long-term. Our culture tends to also focus on big to-do-lists (guilty) and that can add…

Can exercise make you happy?

You’re reading this probably because you are interested in improving your health. Awesome! It takes more than interest though…it takes some action.

There is no magic pill. If you just focus on “products” to help you lose weight or look younger, those products will make you feel insecure when they don’t work as intended. That’s not healthy in the long run.

One of the best ways to do improve your health is through exercise done on a consistent basis. And the key to consistent exercise is finding an activity you enjoy doing — it makes you happier.

Even though I…
